Kart: formidably efficient tyres at the OK and Junior European
Reportagem: FIA Karting Media

The 2020 FIA Karting European events ended on the Wackersdorf circuit in Germany with races full of interest and intensity. The quality and efficiency of the LeCont tyres were an element of this success, which once again demonstrates the manufacturer's ability to respond to calls for tenders, with its recognised professionalism and high level technology. The consistency and performance, which LeCont tyres once again demonstrated in the OK and Junior European Championships, show that the Italian brand is an ideal choice for federations, ASNs and promoters wishing to make their championships a success. Whether in option or premium version, the tyres from the Rovereto factory delighted the 88 OK and 97 Junior drivers who took part in this prestigious international competition, which took place successively at Zuera in Spain, Sarno in Italy and Wackersdorf in Germany. Titles go to Antonelli and Ugochukwu!

The excellent feedback and comments from the competitors and teams involved are not misleading. Crowned European OK Champion after another brilliant victory in OK, Andrea Kimi Antonelli did not fail to show his great satisfaction, during one of the numerous interviews given at the end of the meeting. "I was really happy with the technical work done during the season with my KR-IAME-LeCont team. I always managed to use the tyres at the beginning of each race and their consistency allowed me to keep a high level of performance in each round and Final."

The figures confirmed what the Italian said: pole position, three victories out of four in the heats, including one in the very last one on Sunday morning, and a very consistent pace in the Final. From the 8th to the 26th and last lap for example, his times varied between 47"326 and 47"542, with 16 laps in the same tenth of 47"4!

In OK-Junior, the new European Champion Ugo Ugochukwu set his fastest time in the Final on his penultimate lap. "To be fast and consistent from the first to the last lap is essential to win a race," the young American admitted.

See you at the World Championship...

Among the anecdotes of the weekend, the LeCont sales department received a visit from a German driver, who had never before had the opportunity to drive with LeCont tyres in his KZ2 class. As a privileged observer of the event and impressed by the performance of the tyres used during the event, he wanted to buy a set in order to try the Italian tyres! It is true that the times achieved in the last DKM (German Championship) race organised at Wackersdorf, in 2019, were beaten. Antonelli lapped in 46"942 in OK and Pasiewicz in 48"292 in OK-Junior, gains of respectively 4 and 6 tenths!

"Despite the pandemic that we have experienced, which has led to a relatively large drop in the number of drivers actually present compared to the number of entries, LeCont is delighted that the sport has emerged victorious from these FIA Karting European Championships in OK and OK-Junior", commented Paolo Bombara, Marketing Manager at LeCont. "The factory is already working hard for the next World Championship with the same concern for high standards, consistency and sporting fairness, in order to once again offer high-performance tyres that are equivalent from one set to the next. We are also ready to respond to the various calls for tenders with a view to 2021."
