The final round of the FIA Karting European OK and OK-Junior Championships produced some very animated racing on the Italian circuit of Franciacorta. There was no shortage of twists and turns and it was not until the Finals that the names of the 2022 Champions were revealed. The suspense of the Finals reached a rare intensity, the Juniors' race having been especially lively from the beginning to the end. The forces at work were still evolving compared to the previous events. The drivers who were in the limelight at the beginning of the season were often less competitive during the later competitions. The layout of the different circuits played a role in this change, but the constant work of the teams and the preparation of the drivers are undoubtedly the main reason.

Anatholy Khavalkin was racing at only three of the four events and finally won the OK-Junior title for Parolin Motorsport, while Nathan Tye and Sodi's chances went down to the wire. Jan Przyrowski moved up to 2nd place in the standings thanks to his Final victory in Italy for the Tony Kart Racing Team. The OK title went to Kean Nakamura-Berta in a manner unusual for karting. KR Motorsport boss Dino Chiesa intervened to limit the risks within his team by asking Evan Giltaire (VDK Racing) to let Nakamura pass in order to ensure the KR Motorsport double. Alex Powell, the brilliant winner of the race, had to settle for 2nd place in the Championship.

OK-N enters the scene

The FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved the new OK-N as a high performance and accessible category for national competitions. The engine is a simplified version of the OK without exhaust valves and with a maximum engine speed limited to 15,000 rpm. The minimum weight is 155 kg (instead of 145 kg) and the tyres are Option instead of Prime. In addition to the reliable and inexpensive engines, the sporting regulations favour the reduction of budgets to widen the base of participants worldwide. A World Cup will bring together the best qualifiers in each country from 2024.

FIA Karting has produced and distributed a complete presentation of the OK-N.

The 2023 FIA Karting calendar has also been validated by the WMSC. Three new circuits make their appearance in the European Championship: Třinec in the Czech Republic, Rødby in Denmark and Castelletto in Italy.
