Kart: in Italy and Spain the international season gets underway
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

For the second time in the 2023 season, two important competitions were competing on the same date on the weekend of 4th and 5th March. The third round of the WSK Super Master Series was taking place in Italy at the Sarno track, while the IAME Euro Series organised by RGMMC was starting in Spain at Zuera. The current good health of international karting allowed both races to find their audience and to take place very satisfactorily. 255 participants from 45 nations in five categories for the WSK and 188 drivers from 24 countries in the three categories of the IAME Series. Some teams and drivers have nevertheless made a choice in their priorities.

In Sarno, the WSK Super Master Series rewarded five new winners after lively races with many twists and turns. The Swede Maximus Unt (Tony Kart / TM) in Mini U10, the Panamanian Gianmatteo Rousseau (KR/Iame) in Mini, the Colombian Salim Hanna Hernandez (LN/Vortex) in OK-Junior, the Italian Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart / Vortex) in OK and the Briton Freddie Slater (Birel ART / TM) tasted the joys of victory for the first time this year. KR Motorsport was mainly present in the OK-Junior category. The launch of the Champions of the Future Euro Series next week in Spain (Valencia) will give a more complete overview of the forces present in the OK & OK-Junior categories 15 days before the first round of the FIA European Karting Championships.

In Zuera, the X30 Mini was dominated by three British drivers, including the winner Archie Lovatt (KR/Iame). Spaniard Sandro Perez (Birel ART / Iame) won X30 Junior against two British drivers and another Spaniard, Ruben Moya (Pantano / Iame) won the X30 Senior ahead of an Italian and a Belgian.

Meanwhile, the US Champions of the Americas series held its second event in Glendale, Arizona with Races 3 and 4. It was the second race weekend for the OK-Ns, this time 10 in number, while waiting for the much awaited launch of the Italian Championship in May with the OK-N and OKN-Junior. In the USA, Blake Nash won both Finals ahead of Alex Keyes on Saturday and Jesus Vasquez on Sunday. Nash now leads the COTA championship which officially started this weekend.

The International Karting Ranking set up by the CIK-FIA since the beginning of the season is becoming interesting to follow with the increasing number of events taken into account. Check out the IKR at this link. It is regrettable that the American OK-N events are not included, and this is not the fault of the CIK-FIA.
