Reportagem: Andy Consani

At just 14 years of age, Andy Consani has been one of France's best hopefuls throughout the 2024 international season. Already a top-10 finisher in an FIA Karting European Championship event in the spring for his first season in the OK category, he claimed his first podium in the prestigious WSK Euro Series a few weeks later. The eagerly-awaited World Championship confirmed his potential, with a notable presence at the front of the field. Andy Consani now faces a number of important challenges for the future, which he will tackle with confidence and determination.

Flashback

Andy Consani was just nine years old when he finished 7th in the 2019 French Minime Championship. Since then, he's been working hard to improve his position and has taken one podium after another, pushing himself to set ever-higher goals each year. In particular, Andy has set his sights on an international career from 2021. Trained at the difficult Mini category in Italy, he logically moved up to Junior the following year. The experience he gained enabled him to score points on several occasions at the 2023 European Championship, in which he finished as top Frenchman. His rise to prominence was confirmed by a top-10 finish at the World Championships.

"These results got me noticed by Sodikart, the world's leading kart manufacturer, and they offered me a place in their Racing Team for 2024 in the OK category, where all the world's best hopefuls compete before moving up to single-seaters," explained Andy.

Promising first results in OK

Competing against more experienced drivers, Andy Consani immediately found himself in the top 15 in the preparatory races at the start of the season, despite having just turned 14. The driver from Bouches du Rhône continued make a name for himself at the wheel of his Sodi / TM Kart in the OK category, capable of astonishing performances with an average lap speed of 100 km/h, a top speed of over 140 km/h and a 40 hp engine for a weight with driver of just 145 kg).

"I was delighted to finish 6th in the French round of the European Championship. I was really fast that day, and I even think that the podium was possible without a difficult start from the outside of the grid, which is always a handicap at this level. In the following months, I had further satisfying results in a number of competitions, including the WSK Euro Series, where I finished runner-up after taking 2nd place on the podium at the Franciacorta circuit in Italy."

P1 and P2 in the World qualifying heats

Andy Consani came into the World Championship at the demanding PF International Kart Circuit confident, even though he knew that the British drivers would be hard to beat on home soil.

"With the Sodi team, we performed well from the very first Free Practice and I managed the 3rd fastest time in my group in Qualifying, a 14th place out of 105."

Competing against the best drivers in the world, Andy made a brilliant comeback to 2nd place in his first heat, before going on to win the second heat. Fastest in his warm-up on Sunday morning, the 2nd fastest time of the official meeting, was also a significant achievement!

Unfortunately, a broken valve and a puncture relegated Andy to 22nd on the grid for the Final.

"Despite everything, I felt ready to move up the order, but then the rain came. We fitted the treaded tyres for the first time all weekend, but a collision at the start meant I lost the chance of a good result, although the lap times I set afterwards were excellent."

Selected for the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy

Today, the future of the talented and hard-working Andy Consani could lie in single-seater racing as early as 2025, depending on opportunities.

"Along with five other young drivers with karting backgrounds, I've been scouted to take part in the Richard Mille Volant. The competition is going to be tough, but I'm going to give it my all, just as I do every time I get into the driving seat. In the meantime, I'd like to thank all the people who have enabled me to experience this fantastic 2024 season at the highest level: the people in charge at Sodikart, my team manager Jean-Philippe Guignet, the technical staff at Sodi Racing Team, Franco Drudi and the TM Kart brand for their high-performance engines, my partners R'Sud Medical and Racing Lubes, the KSP Reportages agency which is following me for communications and of course my parents without whom nothing would be possible."
