Kart: record attendance for the WSK Final Cup in Lonato
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

The first of the two WSK Final Cup events in Lonato has just broken a participation record, with 389 drivers from 48 nations taking part. The end-of-season races, typically organised after the World Championships, are attracting more and more competitors. This is WSK Promotion's area of excellence.

It's not really the titles that are at stake that make these competitions interesting, but rather the early preparation for next season. At the end of the year, there are many interesting category changes. Among the Mini drivers, Henri Kumpen and Alessandro Truchot made a successful debut in OKN-Junior, finishing on the Final podium. This new category seems to offer an excellent gateway to OK-Junior, where the level of competition continues to rise. In OK, Dries van Langendonck took 2nd place in his third race in the category, while Christian Costoya started from 4th position in the Final in his second competition in OK. After a full season in OK-Junior, Frenchman Thomas Pradier achieved his best result of the year in 12th position in the OK Final on his first appearance, while his compatriot Louis Cochet, also a rookie in OK, put in some superb runs to move up to 15th for the start of the Final.

With the absence of several factory teams, the KZ2 allowed a number of drivers to compete at Lonato, and in some cases to make their debut in gearbox karts, such as Dutchman Jayden Thien, a transfer from Rotax Senior. Spain's David Vidales, 2nd in the 2019 International Super Cup, chose the WSK Final Cup to perfect his car training.

However, despite the high quality of organisation by WSK Promotion, a meeting bringing together almost 400 drivers in seven categories is a demanding event for the teams and officials. The days began with the drivers taking to the track at 8am in the morning and ended without a break as night fell. The event began on Wednesday and ended on a busy Sunday with no fewer than 13 Prefinals and seven Finals. It was a long way from a quiet weekend in Italy, especially as the temperatures were beginning to cool.

The second round of the WSK Final Cup will take place in an identical format from November 20th to 24th on the Cremona circuit.
