Kart: constant eveolution for the 3rd edition in Belgium
Reportagem: Sodi World Series

A newcomer to the recreational karting scene, the world of electric competition is thriving. The third edition, held on 23rd and 24th May 2025 in Belgium at Wavre Indoor Karting, provided clear evidence of this with its desire to bring something new to the table.

There were many positive aspects to the event. With a brand new track that can be driven in both directions, bridges and tunnels, and a welcoming and attractive setting with a beautiful terrace that facilitates meetings and exchanges between the community, Wavre Indoor Karting offered the best in terms of infrastructure. The brand new Sodi RSX 2 V2 karts, equipped with the now approved lead ballast box, a choice of high maximum speed (V4) and large on-board screens to enhance the competition, created a great atmosphere thanks to the small gaps between the drivers. The track entertainment provided by Rotax, the prize draws and the excellent turnout at the ITAKAshop rounded off the success of this SWS e-Sprint International Final 2025, won by Belgian driver Baptiste Vanderbeke.

Day 1: Vanderbeke scores big points

The first day was dominated by Baptiste Vanderbeke (BEL-Experience Factory Eupen by Prokarting.eu), who took pole position and won the Final. The track layout did not make overtaking easy, and drivers had to prepare their manoeuvres carefully to have any chance of success. Qualifying was therefore very important. Patrick Porta (DEU-RS Speedworld E-Karting Kaarst) and Axel Saarniala (FIN-VM Karting Center) gave the winner a run for his money, along with Yann Flambard (FRA-Ardennes Karting). The battle was fierce at all levels in all races, with many different winners being rewarded. The day ended with reverse direction practice sessions in preparation for the next day.

Day 2: Saarniala comes back strongly

The change in the direction of the track called the hierarchy into question, especially as a new rolling start procedure was adopted to reduce incidents on the first lap. Saarniala dominated from start to finish. Pole position with a lead of more than four tenths of a second, he was unbeaten in the heats before winning the Final with a significant lead. Emrik Törnqvist (SWE-Gokartcentralen Kungälv) set the second fastest time in Qualifying after finishing 10th the day before. Davide Maserio (ITA-E-Motion Meda), 3rd against the clock, was also much faster than the day before. Baptiste and Porta nevertheless remained well in contention in 3rd and 4th position on the day.

Victory for Vanderbeke

The final result of the SWS e-Sprint International Final was decided in the last Final in favour of Baptiste Vanderbeke, who led by just four points ahead of Axel Saarniala. Patrick Porta secured 3rd place ahead of Emrik Törnqvist and Max Karhunen (FIN-VM Karting Center). In 6th place, Yann Flambard was the top French driver. In her first appearance, Natalia Astalosova (SLO-Motokáry MAX 60) took the top step of the women's podium ahead of Laura Vetterova (SLO-Motokáry MAX 60) and Maeline Brossard (FRA-Fast and Green).

During the traditional closing ceremony, the prizes were presented to the winners at the Wavre Indoor Karting venue during a celebratory meal, recognising the numerous drivers who were rewarded at each stage of the competition. Rotax presented the E20 ticket and invitation to the Rotax Max Challenge Euro Trophy in Sarno to the winner of the event. Representatives from European circuits were given reserved access to fully appreciate the organisation and running of the SWS e-Sprint International Final. The quality of the live streaming was unanimously praised. The daily prize draw distributed numerous prizes, such as ITAKAshop gift vouchers, Bell helmets and Mak Design helmet covers.

Finally, the SWS International e-Finals were announced for 2026 in Sicily, with Juniors to be included.
