Kart: the Euro Series goes from strength to strength
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

RGMMC's flagship series, Champions of the Future, is finally taking off. Reserved for the moment for the OK and OK-Junior categories, it is based on the FIA Karting Championships for which it is in part a preparation. The same rules, the same tyres, the same requirements and the same spirit is the strength of RGMMC which is also the promoter of the FIA Karting events. The idea is to offer preparatory competitions for the FIA Karting meeting two weeks before the "official" events with the objective of reducing private testing, which is generally more expensive. Indeed, participation in a preparatory race is much more effective than just driving.

Launched in 2020, Champions of the Future had to wait for the pandemic to go away before it could get up to speed. After two slow seasons, it was renamed the Euro Series in 2022 with a strengthened calendar of four events, or even five if you count the Winter Series in Franciacorta. An interesting concept, the Euro Series is building its reputation thanks to rigorous organisation. Well-informed thanks to an excellent video race control system, the RGMMC stewards are thorough in their respect of the rules and do not hesitate to apply any necessary sanctions. This aspect is highly appreciated by all competitors and is an essential element in the training of young drivers.

The two-week deadline imposed by the FIA Karting before one of its events seems unnecessarily long to most competitors, and generates additional costs for accommodation and travel. In the current situation, it could be reduced to one week.

The recent Euro Series in Sweden at Kristianstad showed that nothing can be taken for granted in karting competition as a different track and capricious weather changed the balance of power. The teams have a lot of work to do to learn from the event, but the drivers also have to adapt to these new circumstances. It will be interesting to compare with the performances recorded in a fortnight time on this same circuit during the third round of the FIA Karting European Championship - OK and OK-Junior from 3rd to 5th June.
