Kart: september / the month of the World Championships
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

After Le Mans last week, World competition will continue next weekend in Sarno with the OK and OK-Junior categories, gathering a field of more than 200 participants at the level of the highest numbers before COVID.

Five drivers have entered both world events in Le Mans and Sarno, in the gearbox and direct drive categories. First of all, two Finns from the Tony Kart Racing Team, Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart / Vortex), 9th in the KZ World Championship and Juho Valtanen (Tony Kart / Vortex) 20th. In addition to Taponen, Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART / TM) 2nd in the KZ2 World Cup and Arvid Lindblad (KR / Iame) in 3rd are in a position to shine in both disciplines, not to mention Karol Pasiewicz (Birel ART / TM).

The teams have been preparing for the world event in Sarno with great care, testing right up to the last moment on the Neapolitan track before carrying out the final tests on other Italian circuits. After a break of at least seven weeks in their racing programme, the OK and OK-Junior drivers are looking forward to the most important event of the season, to be followed from Friday 16th September on www.kartcom.com.

The Monza F1 Grand Prix finally allowed Dutchman Nyck De Vries to make a remarkable debut in Formula 1 with Williams at the age of 27. A protégé of Dino Chiesa, Nyck has an eloquent record in karting on Zanardi chassis. KF1 World Champion in 2011 ahead of Alexander Albon, De Vries replaced the latter in the British team. Nyck was considered a prodigy in karting, where he also won the KF2 World Championship in 2010 after an amazing braking manoeuvre on Jordan Chamberlain in Zuera. He also won the European KF3 Championship in 2009 ahead of Carlos Sainz and Danil Kvyat in Zuera in addition to numerous successes in the various WSK series. While he was spotted by McLaren F1 and a seat was in his sights, his journey in single-seaters was more complicated than expected. It took him three seasons in Formula Renault 2.0 before being crowned Champion. Five years later, he won the F2 championship in 2019. He then turned to endurance racing in LMP2 and Formula E in which he won the 2021 World Championship. He is now one of the few drivers who have scored points in their first Grand Prix.
