Kart: time for the World Single-Brand Finals
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

As every year, the end of October is marked by the simultaneous organisation of the first two world finals of the brand cups, the IAME Warriors Final in Le Mans (FRA) and the ROK Superfinal in Lonato (ITA). The two engine manufacturers are not afraid to compete with each other by holding their world finals on the same date. With few exceptions, the IAME and ROK customer bases are well differentiated, as the geographical location of the various markets is different. For the IAME, 461 drivers, 43 nations, six categories, it is Northern Europe, including the host country, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy that make up the bulk of the IWF squads. The ROK Cup, 373 drivers, 47 nations, seven categories for the Superfinal, is very well established in Italy and Poland, and also in North America, Argentina, Germany as well as in the Czech Republic, Switzerland, South Africa and Malta.

The IWF22 had the particularity of taking place over two consecutive weekends to enable a larger field while maintaining respectable track times. The Junior and Senior categories had the largest number of drivers in both events, followed closely by the Mini categories. The Vortex and IAME gearbox categories are far from the KZ2 figures.

The overall participation figures remain strong with a total of over 830 international drivers in the two one-make events. The pandemic crisis seems to have been forgotten, despite a still complex political and economic context. The Russians were the major absentees of these events.

The Rotax Grand Final to be held in Portugal from 19th to 26th November should complete the picture in the same way.

In the meantime, the FIA Motorsport Games will take place from 26th to 30th October in the south of France with a greater emphasis on kart racing, which for the first time will include two real races in Junior and Senior as well as a four-stroke endurance race in addition to the two-person team slalom. It will be interesting to assess the sporting value of the Junior and Senior sprints run on one-make KR/IAME karts.
