Kart: victory and podium in the European Championship at MotorLand Aragón

The European KZ, KZ2 & KZ2 Masters Championship got off to a late start at the beginning of July in Spain at the MotorLand Aragón circuit. The 1,671m track was a major first for the gearbox categories at this level, as were the relatively hard Dunlop Option tyres chosen as the official tyre compound by the CIK-FIA.

The Birel ART Racing team put in some very good performances throughout the meeting. KZ2 winner Daniel Vasile and KZ2 Masters runner-up Davide Forè were the best examples of the Lissone-based brand's expertise, while Pedro Hiltbrand made a superb 16-place recovery to finish close to the top five in KZ. Artem Severiukhin finished 4th in the KZ2 Final, confirming the competitiveness of the Birel ART / TM Kart before being penalised.

After a hot, summery first day for Qualifying, the weather turned stormy late on Saturday afternoon with heavy rain. The sun gradually returned on Sunday for the Finals.

"We've made a good start to the European Championship at Alcañiz", said team managers Jordon Lennox and Riccardo Longhi, who was also competing in KZ. "We weren't very familiar with the MotorLand Aragón track, which is wide, fast and very uneven. Our ability to adapt was doubly put to the test as we had to explore the capabilities of the Dunlop tyres chosen by the CIK-FIA in a limited time. The hardness of the Option tyres contrasted with the softer Prime tyres we were used to using in KZ. Our drivers' performances continued to improve throughout the meeting, as shown by all the gains they made in the Finals. We're going to keep working over the summer to confirm our potential at the second round of the Championship, at Val Vibrata at the end of August".
