The Lonato circuit is set to host the third round of the WSK Super Master Series this weekend. With almost 400 drivers expected to take part, this round marks the mid-season point in a championship that remains as hotly contested as ever.

Lonato, South Garda Karting, the beating heart of European karting

The nerve centre of karting in Europe, Lonato boasts an ideal location close to the biggest manufacturers. CRG and Maranello are just five minutes away, OTK half an hour, while Birel ART, KR and Parolin are just over an hour away. Even Sodikart has a presence here, with a building dedicated to its 'Racing' department run by the CPB Sport team. This unique concentration fosters permanent technical and sporting emulation, making Lonato an unmissable venue for the world's karting elite.

Points that count double

As the championship progresses, the points system evolves to maintain a high level of commitment from the drivers. The aim is to avoid the usual drop in the number of entries, a logical consequence of the widening gap between the favourites and the other competitors. In this context, the FIA Karting's IKR (International Kart Ranking) plays a decisive role in comparing the performances of drivers competing in different events.

CRG makes a comeback

Until now, CRG has promoted its young talent under the Kali Kart and Tgroup banners. For the first time this season, the historic brand is entering a major team. Among its drivers, former KZ champion Viktor Gustafsson will be the most experienced, although he will be lining up in the OK category. On the other hand, CRG will not be fielding any KZ2 drivers at this round.

The expected return of Joe Turney

Joe Turney (Kart Republic), who was absent from the first two OK races, will be making his comeback at Lonato. The Briton was previously competing in the Pro X30 class in Florida, as part of the SKUSA Winter Tour, where he dominated the first two events. Observers will be paying close attention to his ability to compete with the many young talents fresh from the OK-Junior category.

Record attendance in OKN-Junior

For the first time this year, the OKN-Junior category attracted more than one grid, with 52 entries. This trend confirms that this category is perceived more as a smooth transition from Mini to OK-Junior, rather than as a direct alternative to international competition from the national stages.

However, CIK-FIA President Ebrahim Akbar must be delighted with the growing success of this new category. The OK-N is a simplified version of the OK, with regulations designed to reduce costs.

With a field approaching 400 drivers, one thing is certain: the WSK weekend promises to be intense for all those involved in this third round!
