Kart: D’Ascoli wins at Viterbo / Kolovos runner-up in the Italian Championship
Reportagem: Modena Kart

The Modena Kart Racing Team fielded a superb line-up of 11 drivers for the fifth and final round of the ACI Sport Italian Championship. At the Viterbo circuit, the team's colours and those of the Parolin-TM Kart packages never ceased to shine at the front of the field in the OK-N Junior class: pole position in all three groups during Qualifying, a clean sweep of the top three places at the end of the Qualifying heats, victory in the Final and the title of Italian runner-up! Another exceptional overall result...

Fastest times across all three groups in Qualifying!

Modena Kart Racing Team prepared perfectly for the Viterbo round, which featured a large field of 76 entrants in the OK-N Junior class, and fielded highly competitive equipment that the drivers put to good use in a brilliant Qualifying session: Radu Basescu Pricop set the fastest time in Group 1 with a lap of 54.029. Track conditions improved in Group 2, where Ruzgar Evci proved the fastest with a time of 53.890. The pole position ultimately went to a third driver from the Modena Kart team, Luigi D'Ascoli, who clocked a superb 53.786.

P1, P2 and P3 after the heats

The Italian, the Turkish driver and the Romanian retained the top three places in that order across the Qualifying Heats, with a total of nine wins out of ten and a large number of fastest laps in the races. Racing incidents during the Super Heats did not go in Ruzgar Evci's favour towards the end of the meeting; he dropped to 10th before fighting back to 6th after a solid Final. Radu Basescu Pricop also lost valuable places on Sunday morning. He finished 5th in the Final and 8th in the Italian Championship.

Luigi D'Ascoli dominant in the Final

Starting from pole position, Luigi D'Ascoli led from start to finish. He retained the event's absolute lap record and climbed to 5th in the Championship's final standings. A fine performance! 17th in Qualifying, Ioannis Kolovos never gave up. Following his two victories at La Conca and Val Vibrata, the fast Greek driver knew that a good position in the overall standings awaited him should he have a successful Final. Determinedly he fought his way up to 7th place, securing the title of Italian Vice-Champion.

In the end, seven drivers took part in the Viterbo Final, with fine performances from Russia's Nikita Dzalilov and Mexico's Mauro Fabian Nario, as well as a notable improvement from Italy's Tommaso Corsi. A retirement in the very first heat proved costly for the Italian Raffaele Mini, who came very close to qualifying, as did the Russian Danila Verba, who was unlucky in the Super Heat. The Ukrainian Vladimir Skorobagach also showed he had the potential to make his mark after reaching the top half of the standings in Qualifying.

Modena Kart Racing Team congratulates Turkish driver Ates Birinci, who moved up the field in each of his races by maintaining an excellent pace in the OK-N class. Starting from P50 in Qualifying, he fought his way up to P20 in the Final!

Analysis by Gabriele Finocchi, team principal of Modena Kart

"I must admit it was a real thrill to see the results sheets for Qualifying and the heats with three of our drivers in the top three places, which led to several races with front rows entirely in Modena Kart Racing Team colours. Luigi D'Ascoli capped it off with a magnificent victory in the Final, but Ruzgar Evci and Radu Basescu Pricop were just as deserving of their places on the podium. Congratulations to Ioannis Kolovos, who managed to navigate his way through the incidents to become Italian Vice-Champion. It's an incredible overall result for the team."

Commentary from Alessandro Palloni, team manager at Modena Kart

"What a weekend! All our drivers delivered brilliant performances at various stages of the race. This is clearly the result of the team's tireless work, both on the technical side and in coaching. It's always a great source of satisfaction to see that our Parolin chassis and M.A. Engines are so competitive, allowing all our drivers to benefit from them. It's also very encouraging just a few days ahead of the FIA Karting OK-N Junior World Cup, which will take place in Viterbo from 8 to 11 October 2026. As always, we'll do our utmost to help our drivers achieve their goals."
